Thousands of students marched from College Street to Krishnapada Ghosh Memorial Hall in Kolkata today, responding to the call of SFI, AISF, AISB, and PSU’s West Bengal State Committee. The primary demand of the rally was the immediate conduction of student council elections in all colleges and universities. Protesters emphasized the need for a fear-free academic environment and accused authorities of delaying elections. They also raised concerns over the closure of several educational institutions in the state, urging the government to reopen them immediately to restore normal academic functioning.
The rally also demanded the release of student activist Comrade Raza Sheikh, whose detention has drawn criticism from student groups. Additionally, participants paid tribute to Comrade Sudipta Gupta on his martyrdom day, recalling his role in past student movements. Organizers stated that their agitation would continue until all demands, including elections, institutional reopening, and Sheikh’s release, are met.
